Mada & Ricky Wrecks LIVE 8pm – 10:30(pst)
Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico and raised in Santa Fe, NM, lived and worked in the Bay Area, and now making his mark in the San Diego music scene. When he was 8yrs old, his uncle introduced him to the Turntables and hip hop and soon after, his love for music has evolved into making music. Fast forward to circa 94-97, After obtaining a Recording Intern Degree at the Conservatory of Recording Arts & Science, Mada was already deep into hip hop by high school, and was going to underground shows from artists like Common, Heiroglyphics, The Roots, etc.. Through school, he found himself moving out to the Bay Area to work for Chris Smith (Afro Mystic), the CEO of OM Records. There, he was surrounded by such talents like Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Jazzbo, Doze Green, TWIST and King Britt to name a few. Check him out on his blog or mixcrate.com where he hides his stash of old mixtapes. Hear him play LIVE for The Lab Mixshow tonight.
Ricky Wrecks moved to SD in 1999 to go to SDSU. After starting the Mixtape Sessions weekly with DJ Mada, a night for dj’s by dj’s where guests were encouraged to leave that jiggy club shit behind and play the kind of music they would put on a mixtape for themselves, he went on to become an Earthbound Radio resident. Currently, Wrecks runs the Red C Lounge nightclub where underground and classic hip hop still have a home.
